- Establishing a platform in Yunlin County to protect marine resources and train future fisheries talents
Yunlin has historically been the largest aquaculture region in Taiwan, yet there are no aquaculture-related programs available to provide local students with career insights. As a result, local students must seek knowledge elsewhere. After understanding local needs through the Yunlin USR team from National Taiwan Ocean University, we collaborated with Beigang Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School to establish aquaculture clubs and create a sustainable marine resources classroom. The ultimate goal is to establish the only aquaculture program in Yunlin County.
With the establishment of the aquaculture club, courses taught by professional faculty from National Taiwan Ocean University will integrate marine education with local industrial resources. By December 2023, over 60 participants have engaged in the club's courses.
Additionally, our university has further collaborated with Beigang Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School to set up a sustainable marine resources classroom, using the fixed venue provided by Beigang Agricultural and Industrial as a base. This space will serve as an activity area for community residents, club courses, and educational events, offering local people and students a place for marine education. The initiative aims to shape the core meanings of marine resources, environment, sustainability, and innovation, while aligning with our university's continuous expansion and deepening of local care and talent cultivation.
Sustainable Impact: Enhance the local community's understanding of marine resources and the environment, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development of marine resources. This reflects the NTOU's commitment to local care and talent cultivation.
